After the fight Hunter went as far as using dirty tricks by threatening to harm Luz if she doesn't surrender the key, but after she does hand it over, he does show genuine gratitude, visible remorse about this before leaving, showing he did so out of desperation and fear of his Uncle, not malice. The duo first met each other in "Eclipse Lake", when Hunter is captured by Amity and is forced to follow her, Eda and King into the mine tunnels. Noticing Luz's messages to Amity on the device, Hunter interprets it as Luz wanting Amity to come back with results or she will break up with her. When Kikimora starts getting closer to Hunter and Amity's hiding place, he begs Amity to untie him, saying he doesn't want to be replaced. Amity reluctantly obliges, but Hunter immediately betrays her by tripping her down and rushes towards Eclipse Lake.

In season two, it is shown that Bump openly enjoys Luz's presence at the school but is forced by the Blights to expel her, Gus, and Willow, despite not wanting to. When they attempt to get back into school, he is upset at having to prevent them from entering, and that he thinks life was dull without them.[8] "Hunting Palismen" reveals that the devil "hat" on his head is actually his palisman Frewin, which allows him to see due to an unspecified incident in his youth. After the students defeat Graye and the Emperor's Coven, Bump gets them to leave by stating that he would tell Emperor Belos that they were defeated by children.[47] He is captured by the Collector after the events of "King's Tide" and the remaining Hexside students create a statue in his honor, though he is later revived. In the epilogue, Bump has retired from being the principal of Hexside, and is last seen watering his plants.

When they first met each other in "Separate Tides", Luz is shown to heavily dislike the Golden Guard after he gives them the ultimatum to kill a Selkidomus or he would drown King in the Boiling Sea. She later attempts to kidnap him after her demotion to give to Belos, believing that this will return her to her previous position or perhaps even cause her to become the Emporer's new right-hand. She appears to be jealous of the Golden Guard, thinking Emperor Belos favors him over her.

Hunting for Titan's Blood
Camila dives in and gets him out as Belos leaves Hunter and smashes the blood against an arch to get back to the Demon Realm. On his way back to the Emperor's Castle, Hunter bonds with Flapjack, thanking him for never leaving his side and even now being able to understand what his palisman is saying.[11] He returns to the palace and gives the key to Belos, who promptly tells him to leave. Belos, weakened but not dead, returns to the Demon Realm, and Hunter and his friends follow closely behind, vowing to honor his fallen palisman.[9] After the group escape capture by the Collector, Hunter helps evacuate the trapped residents from the Isles' destruction.
Hunter/The Golden Guard
Hunter appears again and protects Luz from Belos (who is really Philip Wittebane) where he finally says Luz's name for the first time, and they both escape from Belos' mind. Hunter is shocked, hurt and confused that everything he thought and believed in Belos and himself were all a lie, Hunter then throws away his cloak and runs away in panic after finally seeing the truth. Afterwards, Hunter officially bonds with his palisman, who introduces himself as Flapjack, as they leave.
While working under the Emperor, Hunter became known as "the Golden Guard" and served as the Emperor's right-hand man. Hunter appears to be orphaned, since he and Belos describe their family as being gone due to the effects of wild magic. Even though he was committed to Belos and his supposed purpose as the Golden Guard, Hunter appears to be very insecure about himself. Ever since his failed mission to find palismen for Belos, Hunter showed signs of anxiety towards the idea that Belos would replace him and was desperate to get back in his good graces. When he failed to find any more Titan's Blood, Hunter began to suffer a mental breakdown and chose to lie in a grave rather than return empty-handed, showing that deep down, he fears Belos and the idea of what he'd do to him if he were to fail a second time.
Hunter begins to cry in tears of joy upon hearing this and Luz wraps her arm around him. Later in the Haunted Hayride, Hunter once again suspects Belos and he goes to Luz. Hunter then admits that he and the group had planned to have a surprise for Luz in gratitude for all she and her mother had done for them. In "Reaching Out", Luz reveals that she asked Willow for Hunter's Penstagram contact, so she could get more information on Emperor Belos from him.
